Are there a lot of fun things to do at school?
Yes. Field Day is really fun, and the Art Club is excellent. There is also a band and a chorus that are a lot of fun. The playground is really good. And in spring each year we have an Asian/Pacific Heritage celebration, and we get to see Taiko Drummers and Hawaiian Dancers and lots of other really cool stuff. |

May I ride my bike to school?
Yes. If your house is on the east side of base, you will attend Joan K. Mendel Elementary School, and you will live close enough to school to ride your bike or to walk. |

Do the students wear uniforms?
No, but there is a dress code which can be found on page 23 of the handbook.

What about lunch?
There is a cafeteria where you can buy a lunch, or you can bring a lunch from home. After lunch there is a recess period, and the playground is really good. |

Will I get to use computers?
Yes. Joan K. Mendel ES has 5 computers in every classroom and 3 computer labs. One of the computer labs is a mobile computing lab with 20 notebook computers. |

Are the teachers good?
Yes. The teachers at Joan K. Mendel ES are all highly trained and certified to teach the subjects they are teaching. |

What do I do if I have a problem and I need help?
There are many people at Joan K. Mendel ES who are happy to help students with all sorts of problems. Depending on what you need help with, you may want to talk to your parents, your teacher, the counselor, the nurse, Mr. Stroup, the assistant principal, or Ms. Hiyama, the principal.
